I love the "Music" album. Tapestry deserves it's hype. All of her early 70s Lou Adler-produced albums are gold. What about you? BTW, you've been covering a LOT of musical ground lately. Do you like Otis & Stax stuff?

I'm not a true Dylan fan; i don't listen to him for the usual reasons. I really enjoy the period from "John Wesley Harding" to "Blood on the Tracks". I love "Self Portrait". I would never argue that it's his greatest album, i just really like it. What about you?

The Impressions - just about any greatest hits would do for starters. For Curtis, Superfly is essential (some nice stickwork too!) I enjoy his 1st "Curtis" album also. On the Buddy Holly songs, i prefer the overdubbed versions. You prolly saw my shout on the "What to do" page. I know some people revere them undubbed bc they were his last recordings, but i think Petty was very tasteful with them and very much in keeping with the last work Buddy had done with the Crickets, even though i still don't care for Petty as a person.

Yeah, i love the demo of "Circles" as much as the 1982 version. When i listened to it, i did pull out those Anthology 3 demos as well. I almost love the acoustic "While my Guitar Gently Weeps" more than the final version.

I had to go for cheap seats also. $50 for the Who and $90 for Fleetwood Mac (not really cheap, but still way up in the nosebleeds...) Though I don't really mind, it should be worth it. :)

Nah it's fine, I was dumb too. My problem is I think you misinterpreted what I said; I have no problem with the Beatles at all, I do consider them to be one of the best and most influential bands ever. I was probably just not very clear, lol. And cool, looks like we're going to the same shows! how close are you to the stage?

I love Charlie too! Just sent a Beatles Christmas message to your email. If you enjoy it, i have more. I enjoy them this time of year. I'm obsessed too! Those who really know music know the truth. And beyond the debates, the numbers don't lie - they STILL outsell just about everybody.

I read the ongoing shouts on the Beatles page (lol). You go, man! I'm with you.

"then again you like pearl jam and the black keys" Not sure why you felt the need to bring that up (on the Beatles page no less), but whatever. I can be an immature child too, and point out that I at least like bands that have debuted after 1970.

John: My favorite album is Mind Games. I know it's not the critic's favorite, but i really enjoy it. I like most Plastic Ono Band & the concept he was going for, but some of the songs border on self pity for me. Beyond that, i just enjoy certain songs from the other albums. I enjoy his songs on Milk & Honey and am glad they didn't "clean" them up. It really sounds like he was having great time like he did in the early Beatle days. Paul: top 4 would definitely be McCartney, McCartney II, Ram & Band on the Run. Beatles: Man, that's really hard for me to say bc i love them all. Each album has alot going for it in whichever period it was made. I really enjoy Pepper but i get frustrated with Lennon bc he always bashed it, Although it was Paul's concept, it was Lennon's songs that were truly revolutionary, that really put the album over, a peak i feel he never reached again in songwriting. How about you?

I have read "I Me Mine". It's interesting. I feel the definitive George book has yet to be written. Same with Paul. Saw a rare book about Ringo the other day and almost bought it. I'm very into rock & music bios. The new Neil Young one looks interesting. I read half of Shakey and it was great. Lots of details about Buffalo Springfield & CSN&Y as well. Aside from All Things Must Pass, what do you feel is his best 70's album?

Musically speaking, it has been Paul since childhood, although I really enjoy George's music and feel it is underrated. Even though, he didn't enjoy huge commercial success, his work is very consistent all the way through. I think John was brilliant, the most original of the 4, but peaked way too soon. I guess he had too many personal demons. I admire Ringo for not giving up when they broke up, and for having the good sense & humility to surround himself with talented friends to make music with through the years. Personality wise, i love then all. What a great combination!

Well, I did the thing I've been doing a lot of in the past few years, which is to download the discography and then just sample from it at random. I know it's a counterproductive way to really get into a group, but I've become essentially addicted to shuffle/random listening. At any rate, almost every Beach Boys song I've heard from after the '60s has annoyed me--indeed, probably from after the Smile era. Any recommendations?
