I respect your opinion because you definitely know what you're talking about. As far as Lil B, I never really got into him. I heard a few songs and his music lacks substance and value. His sound is more geared towards the youth and I really don't think he has much sustainability. His 15 minutes will be up shortly. Just my opinion though. You have any recommendations for me?

Bands from the Canterbury scene fused jazz, rock, etc., so you might start there. I was going to suggest [artist]Soft Machine[/artist], and the album [album artist=Soft Machine]Fourth[/album] in particular. I've always loved [artist]King Crimson[/artist], though they're not terribly jazzy - I've lately been listening to stuff from the mid-70s ([album artist=king crimson]Red[/album], [album artist=king crimson]Starless and Bible Black[/album], [album artist=King Crimson]USA[/album], and [album artist=King Crimson]Larks' Tongues in Aspic[/artist]). There's also [artist]Procol Harum[/artist] and [artist]Gentle Giant[/artist], both highly recommended. I could go on, let me know if you want more. Peace!

Happy Holidays Kevin. What are your thoughts on the funk that came out of Dayton, Ohio like Slave, Ohio Players, Heatwave, Dazz Band etc?

Hi again, I saw your shout to Im2jazzy4U about Ascension - oddly enough I listened to both editions only yesterday, and I have to agree with you it is more 'listenable' than I used to find it, although I have always loved it, and it is still a very powerful and intense piece. Also, I am listening as I type this to a Roy Haynes Quartet album which features the wonderful Roland Kirk. Peace, Bob

The song I thought about by Barbieri, when hearing Pharoah, was La Podrida: http://www.last.fm/music/Gato+Barbieri/_/La+Podrida However, I think Pharoah's is slightly better since Gatto's is a bit too slick for my taste, but nonetheless they have similarities.

km: Thanks. The blog comes out too slow, unfortunately. Keep your eyes peeled for a post on [artist]Tyler the Creator[/artist] and the blues standard "Trouble in Mind." Also working on a big post on the musical references in Native Son.
