One of my grandmothers was a believer and a Christian to my knowledge -- at least, she did own some religious texts and a cross and so on (some of which now resides in this wholly non-religious home as nice token of her, though what we really associate her with was her love for elephants, having an enormous collection of such figures). My other (maternal) grandma wasn't one, reasoning that God wouldn't be so cruel if He did exist. I always could relate more to her. @Your_Old: I'm glad to see someone who's glad to see I share their opinion!

Good thing the scandinavians are primarily non-religious despite the lingering of superstition still being present to some degree. :)

Your, I sing for a place called the Grace & Hope Mission here in Baltimore. The oldest sister there is Ms. Carlson at 93 years old. She has been with the mission since she was just 16. She is a Swede and immigrated here early but even after all this time, she knows her mother tongue.. She recited John 3:16 in Swedish. :)

Those deeply-held beliefs that are the reason you're getting behind the intolerant likes of Phil Robertson? I feel little obligation to respect them. If a person I like is religious (as two close friends are) I'll make an exception. Tends to show up only after getting to know people anyhow.

So glad (insecure) that you need to demean/belittle/insult other people's deeply-held beliefs. Nice. Yes, indeed, so very tolerant, loving and understanding.

Lewis might actually have a point in his "there are no atheists" post that's worth thinking about, even if not the point he intended. It is likely that we all believe on some level, but that's a direct result of constantly having heard of this being throughout our lives (and the same would go for anything else we're being taught by society in our upbringing). Apart from being taught about religion directly you're taught -- and live by -- years numbered after Jesus, "God" comes up in any imagineable sentence even if just used as a figure of speech, etc.. And it may indeed be hard, if not impossible, to completely get rid of it. It's imprinted. It is possible that we have to make active use of logic, reason and a moral compass to stay away from to the dogma, the same way people who are bullied, discriminated against, or otherwise treated differently may feel insufficient throughout life and have to convince themselves they are of equal worth.

"An atheist that says "God bless?" Kinda proves a point that atheists are a myth." Honestly, that's pretty stupid. I'm an atheist. I don't believe in the existence of God. Or any gods for that matter.

An atheist that says "God bless?" Kinda proves a point that atheists are a myth. Everyone knows of God, not everyone accepts His teaching. Everyone has a relationship with God, doesn't mean it's a good relationship. They're in denial. But they know... Yeah, I don't believe that Atheists exist. :) Seriously. They're just people who have lost faith or are angry at God. Atheism is an intellectual stance, nothing more.
