Biografie

Imogen Heap (* 9. Dezember 1977) ist eine englische Sängerin, Komponistin, Musikerin und Musikproduzentin aus Essex.

Als Tochter von sehr kunstinteressierten Eltern, lernte Imogen Heap in ihrer Kindheit verschiedene Instrumente (Klavier, Cello, Klarinette und Marimba) spielen und begann schon früh, ihre eigenen Lieder zu komponieren. Nach der Scheidung ihrer Eltern kam sie im Alter von 12 in ein Internat. Während dieser Zeit eignete sie sich in ihrer Freizeit selbständig Wissen über Musikproduktion und Sampling an einem Atari-Computer an. Nach dem Schulabschluss besuchte sie die Brit Music School und unterschrieb mit 17 ihren ersten Plattenvertrag für das Plattenlabel Almo Sounds.

1996 führte sie an ihrem ersten Live-Auftritt vier Songs zwischen den Konzerten von The Who und Eric Clapton im Hyde Park in London auf. 1997 erhielt sie die Möglichkeit, bei der Aufnahme eines Songs von Bon Jovi Klavier zu spielen.

1998 erschien ihr Debüt-Album iMegaphone, das von Kritikern oft mit Werken von PJ Harvey, Kate Bush und Annie Lennox verglichen wurde. Neben Eigenproduktionen arbeitete sie für ihr Erstlingswerk auch mit David Kahne, Dave Stewart und Guy Sigsworth zusammen.

Als Almo Sounds von Universal übernommen wurde, wurde der Vertrag mit ihr aufgelöst.

    I'd like it if she produced something with some power in it. All these individual songs created since the last album are very creative, but they aren't very listenable. Need something exciting like Daylight Robbery! [2] I absolutely agree with you! I feel exactly the same about the new songs..

    @Mindcircus I wouldn't necessarily say that the Heapsongs aren't listenable, but I do agree that they don't have the same impact as the songs from Speak For Yourself. As talented as she is, and as nice as her newer work is, I feel like she *might* never surpass what she did with Speak For Yourself.
